UN Biodiversity Conference COP17
UN Biodiversity Conference COP17
From 19 to 30 October 2026, the Republic of Armenia will host the Seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), bringing together in Yerevan representatives of governments from around the world, international organizations, the scientific community, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, youth, and the private sector.
CBD COP17 will be held under the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity, alongside the Twelfth meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP-12) and the Sixth meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilization (NP-MOP-6).
The conference will mark a significant milestone in the global environmental agenda, as it will feature the first global review of collective progress in implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). Discussions will focus on halting biodiversity loss, restoring ecosystems, promoting the sustainable management of natural resources, addressing the interlinkages between climate change and nature, and strengthening environmental financing and international cooperation.
CBD COP17 is the highest decision-making body under the Convention on Biological Diversity, where global priorities for biodiversity conservation are established and the direction of joint international action is determined.
The Blue Zone of CBD COP17 will serve as the Conference’s official negotiation venue, where Parties, observer organizations, and technical experts will advance the implementation of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
The Blue Zone is designated for accredited government delegations, intergovernmental organizations, accredited observer organizations, technical experts, and duly accredited media representatives.
The Blue Zone will host plenary sessions, contact group meetings, high-level discussions, ministerial meetings, thematic round tables, and press briefings. It will also serve as the venue for negotiations on draft decisions, consideration of reports, and assessments of progress in the implementation of global biodiversity commitments.
The Blue Zone will be located at the Meridian Expo and Event Center (1 Voskerichneri Street, Yerevan 0015), serving as the principal venue for the official negotiations and political processes of CBD COP17.
Access to the Blue Zone will be restricted to accredited participants only. Appropriate security measures and access control procedures will be in place throughout the venue.
